Subramanian Swamy

Subramanian Swamy is a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. He was one of the founding members of the Janata Party. He was the party’s president since its inception in 1990 till 2013, when it merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Swamy completed his Masters in Mathematics from the University of Delhi and went on to do PhD in Economics from Harvard University under Nobel Laureate Simon Kuznets. He entered politics with his involvement in the Sarvodaya movement.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha five times between 1974 and 1999. In 1990 -1991, Swamy served as a member of the Planning Commission and also as Cabinet Minister of Commerce and Law.
