Avani Lekhara

Avani Lekhara is an Indian Paralympic shooter and has won a gold medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event and a bronze medal in 50m Rifle 3-positions women at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, becoming the first and only Indian female para-athlete to have won a Paralympic gold medal.

She currently holds the second position in the R2 Women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 category and has won prestigious medals since 2017. She also has several world records in her name.

She has won multiple medals for the state of Rajasthan, starting from the first National Shooting Championship in 2015. In totality, she has won around seven gold medals in the National Shooting Championships between 2016-2020. She is currently pursuing a five-year degree course in law from the University of Rajasthan.

Her motto in life is: “Life consists not in holding good cards, but playing those you hold, well.”

She has been conferred with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award by the President of India and with the IPC Best Female Debut at the Tokyo Paralympics.
