Abhijit Iyer Mitra

Abhijit Iyer Mitra, a defence economist is a senior fellow at the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies. He holds a graduate degree in B.Com from the University of Madras and a Masters Degree in International Relations from the School of Political & Social Inquiry, Monash University.

Under the patronage of the Centre For Muslim Minorities and Islam Policy Studies, he served as a research assistant on multiple projects and also as the Programme Coordinator at the Observer Research Foundation, New Delhi. Currently, he is a Visiting Research Scholar at Sandia National Laboratories. Abhijit’s interests include military transformation, defence planning, procurement and offsets, infrastructure, governance and historical patterns of conflict in democracies but his research is mostly based on limited wars and nuclear thresholds. He is the author of multiple books and academic publications that include India’s Nuclear Doctrine and Strategy, India’s Air Power Crisis, Indian Nuclear Thought: Doctrinal Confusion and many more.
