Chittara Painting

An indigenous art practiced by women of the Deevaru Community in Karnataka, Chittara painting uses intricate patterns to represent the physical environment and the rituals of life. The paintings are 2-3 feet in size and are created with natural resources such as ground rice and roasted rice for paints and brushes made of Pundi Naaru. It is a cultural phenomenon of the agrarian nature worshippers embodying the socio-cultural dynamics.
